Gulpener Korenwolf, Gulpen, Netherlands
by andaryl | Jul 06 '01
Excellent contribution from the often forgotten Netherlands, combining an imaginative mix of grain, fruit and herbs. An aromatic nose leads up to a fruity/herbal flavor with a pleasant banana aftertaste.

...in disguise!

Sure he looks human at first glance, but he's cute, industrious, fuzzy, chubby, peaceful, and can't live without his grains! Any grain will do, but the more variety, the better. He especially loves multi-grain breakfast cereal, pasta, and bread. Hamster food if I ever saw it!!

If I give him brewed grains, it's even nicer. We are both budding beer geeks and homebrewers. During a session with a too-smooth 3-grain ale (barley, wheat, brown rice) made by a local homebrewer, we were both drunkenly musing... "Why can't some nice microbrewery brew us up a true multi-grain beer?"

Of course we meant a beer brewed with multiple QUALITY grains. Common 3-grain American Swills in cans, made with water, cheap hops, cheap malt, corn and white rice, do NOT count.

I'm SOOOOOO glad you wrote this review! Now I know what to get him next time he needs a little gift to brighten his day.

Best,

Because I cancelled my membership with Casta! I did join his Belgian Tour due to start in August. I may join a different club, or buy that sampler again!

Well enough small talk, go to the beer site on my profile page. Click Beer News on the upper left hand corner. Scroll down and click New Beers on the lower left hand corner. You will get a first hand look at NEW brewery beers!

I was intrigued(?) by the new beers by Rogue. Mexicali Rogue, an ale brewed with jalapeno peppers fermented in the beer for seven days. Also a Hefewezen, an Artisan Vienna-style Lager.

I'll be looking for some of these!

Great review but.... (Reply to this comment)

the folks in Maastricht would be horrified to learn that they live in the south of Holland...which of course they do not. They live in the province of Limburg in the south of the Netherlands, and they have a dislike for Hollanders who live in the provinces of North and South Holland in the west of the country.

Cheers, Tuggy
