Sam Smith's Taddy Porter Makes a Fine Winter Eve Tipple...

by mrkstvns Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jan 25 '05
Pros: Soft malty succulence...
Cons: I personally prefer my porters drier and more attenuated...
Porter is such a wonderful thing. It has so many faces and so many interpretations. It can include the lightly lageresque interpretation that Yuengling does, and it can include those behemoth Baltic interpretations that you find in the slavic regions of ...

You Can't Drink Just a Tad of This

by Bryan_Carey Bryan_Carey is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Restaurants & Gourmet, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, May 15 '00
Pros: Rich Malty Flavor
Cons: High Price
Samuel Smith Brewery was established in 1758 in Yorkshire England. It is the longest- lived brewery in the city and it has consistently produced very high quality products over the years. Its Taddy Porter is a testament to the brewery's commitment to...

My Old Buddy Sam

Pros: Rich, roasty dark brew is extremely satisfying
Cons: Clear glass bottles skunk the beer
Good beers can be a lot like old friends. You like them a lot, but some times you don't see them as often as you should. Still, when you do get around to visiting them again, they quickly remind you of why you liked them so much in the first place. ...

Not too taddy

by andaryl Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Dec 15 '00
Pros: Another excellent member of the Sam Smith's Portfolio
Cons: Not cheap
The first thing I’m going to do next time I’m back in England is organize a trip to the Samuel Smith’s brewery. No wait, second thing. The first thing I’m going to do is run out of the train station, as I know there’s a Samuel Smith’s pub within 2...

Taddy, the First Time 'Round

by beerfly , May 10 '01
Pros: A real mouthful of beer, hard not to like.
Cons: Price.
I was drinking Taddy Porter the first time I saw my wife.

It was in 1986,
at Bube's (pronounced "Boobies") in Mount Joy, PA. I'd met her before, I'd known her for five years, but that night in February was the first time I really...

My Porter Mistress

by Aaron_Burr , Feb 17 '00
Pros: Clean flavor and mildly sweet aftertaste.
Cons: Slightly over-carbonated.
If you have a continuing love affair with porter like myself, you eventually seek a tryst with Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter. Brewed at the "Old Brewery Tadcaster" in Yorkshire, England, Taddy Porter proves to be a great companion before you...

The one and only Taddy Porter

by kurt_h Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Jan 18 '00
Pros: Delicious! My favorite Porter!
Cons: Can't find it on tap anywhere; really needs to go with a meal
My first introduction to Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter was at the Pizza Plant in Buffalo during a cold winter pizza gathering with friends from the local BBS. I needed something to start off the evening and decided on the Taddy Porter as it looked...

Samuel Smith Taddy Porter - The best porter!

by frytz , Jul 13 '01
Pros: Excellent porter.
Cons: Very expensive, hard to find.
I accidentally tried Samuel Smith Taddy Porter about a month ago when my local store happened to be out of my usual brand of porter. I am very partial to porters. Apparently I am in a minority, since many of the porters I have discovered have been...

Not Sammy's best showing

by fastidious , Mar 17 '01
Pros: Unique flavor profile, somewhat fruity
Cons: Light, sour, and pricey
Samuel Smith's Taddy porter is not what i expected. To be honest it was quite disappointing. Perhaps that says more about my expectations than about the beer, but they have a reputation for making top quality brews. Established in 1758, Samuel Smith's...

Prunes and Chocolate
by genetru ,Nov 10 '05
Pros: A nice complex taste with many layers.
Cons: Carbonation is anemic.
dominate the bouquet. It pours a very dark brown, allowing no light to pass. A little undercarbonated, imo, it left a mere half finger head which quickly dissipated, leaving little lacing.

Oddly, the medium bodied mouthfeel contains more carbonation burn than would be indicated by the amount of head.

The taste is everything you want in a porter, starting out with sweet dried fruit, hints of smoke, coffee and chocolate, finishing with just a hint of hop bitterness in the finish, tending towards the fruit tastes as the temperature increases. The 5% alcohol by volume is weaker than I'm used to.
